Unique Engagement Rings: How to Decide?
November 30, 2022Winter Wedding Tips
December 6, 2022There are numerous factors that go into planning a wedding. Once the proposal is made (and accepted), it can feel as though a never-ending whirlwind of activity ensues. A date needs to be set. Wedding rings need to be purchased. A guest list needs to be put together. But something that cannot be overlooked is the wedding caterer. Read our tips below on how to select the best one!
Budget
We’ve said it before, but having a determined budget before you begin searching for options is crucial. You need to know exactly what finances you are working with, and how much will be allocated to a caterer. Note, a quality wedding caterer will likely be one of the more expensive things you pay for; feeding people isn’t cheap! If you plan on having an open bar, the cost will grow exponentially. Prioritize where your money will be spent, and then stick to your budget.
Venue First
Before you can choose a caterer, the venue for the reception needs to be secured. A caterer needs to know what space and options they will be working with. Oftentimes a venue will have a list of recommended vendors; this may even help you make a determination and narrow down your options!
Begin the Search
As we stated above, once you have your venue, they likely will have a list of other recommended vendors. Some venues also have their own catering service included with the use of their facilities. In addition, other vendors you secure may also have lists of vendors they often work with. You might be surprised at how integrated the wedding vendor community is, especially at the local level.
As you talk to these people initially, consider what sort of food you want to serve. Are you planning on having a buffet line of country Amish-style cooking? Do you want everyone to be served a plate of prime rib? Determine the type of cuisine you want, and also come up with a back-up plan. This will also narrow down your options. After all, no point in investigating a place which specializes in seafood if you are allergic.
Note, you don’t need extravagance to have a good meal.
Investigate Your Options
As you compile your options, the easiest thing you can start doing is researching online. The reviews you find, as well as the opinion of your wedding planner and the reception venue should give you an accurate view of the pros and cons.
When you’ve narrowed the search to a few options, reach out. Depending on the size of the wedding caterer, and how far in advance you are scheduling, some caterers may already be booked.
Now comes the fun part. When you’ve established a few options, you need to test the food! At this point the price, availability, type of cuisine, and taste all will come together to help you make your final decision. Pick what you want. After all, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event!
