Probably the best thing about a winter wedding is that less really is more. This not only means that the planning can sometimes be simpler, but it can also mean it might be more cost-effective, too. Here are five of the most important elements you simply MUST have in your winter wedding decor.
One of the most important aspects of planning your winter wedding decor is the color palette you choose.
If you love rich jewel tones, a winter wedding is definitely for you! While jewel tones can seem a bit dark for the warmer seasons, they complement the whites and greys of winter beautifully. Make your winter wedding shine like a gem with a warm ruby red and emerald green or an icy sapphire blue.
While deep jewel tones are gorgeous in winter wedding decor, your options are certainly not limited to them. Equally as gorgeous for a winter wedding is the other side of the spectrum. If you prefer softer tones, consider a muted palette of light, icy blues, greys, and blushes, or cool pastels.
Alternatively, if you want your winter wedding to be truly stunning in all its winter glory, consider an all-white palette. Not only is an all-white palette striking, but it’s also elegant and keeps the planning simple.
Another one of our favorite simple winter wedding decor ideas is to incorporate natural elements, especially pinecones. Pinecones are earthy, elegant, and cost-effective. In addition, pinecones make excellent (and super simple) table place card holders. They naturally hold the card upright, while at the same time adding rustic winter charm to your tablescape. Likewise, you can add small pinecones to napkin rings as an easy wintery accessory. Use them as-is and natural, or you can spray them with white or glitter paint to give them a frosty, snowy look.
Additionally, other natural elements that pair especially well with a winter wedding are branches, twigs, pine needles, and other greenery such as eucalyptus. Likewise, employing the use of plenty of greenery garlands is a simple approach to boosting the organic and wintery feel of your winter wedding. You can hang garlands throughout the room, or drape them across your tables as a runner or centerpiece. Bonus points if you make your garlands even more stunning by wrapping them with twinkle lights.
When it comes to a winter wedding, forget everything you ever thought about baby’s breath being simply a filler flower in arrangements. In your winter wedding decor, consider making baby’s breath the star of the show!
Baby’s breath has a cloud-like, snowy-soft appearance that can turn your wedding into a winter wonderland, especially if you’ve opted for an all-white palette. Not only will massive bunches of baby’s breath look snowy and stunning, but they will also be cost-effective.
If you want your winter wedding decor to make your special day extra cozy and magical, you simply must incorporate fairy lights and candles. Proper lighting is essential when it comes to creating your desired atmosphere. Fairy lights and candles give off just enough warmth to be cozy and just enough twinkle to be magical, especially in a winter setting.
String fairy lights throughout your venue. You can even consider a wall of fairy lights as a simple but stunning backdrop for your vows. Likewise, make sure you use plenty of candles throughout your decorations, especially your tables. If your venue doesn’t allow open flames, LED candles can offer a similar (and safer!) warmth of light. Also, consider having your bridesmaids carry candles down the aisle as a floral bouquet alternative for a surprising and glowing (and cheap!) entrance.
Lastly, there are naturally not as many flowers and fruits in-season during the winter and are therefore much more expensive. Instead of sourcing high-priced fresh blooms and fruits for your winter wedding decor, consider dried fruit and blooms instead! Not only will it be more cost-effective, but dried elements add an organic and particularly wintry feel to your winter wedding. Use dried fruit for subtle pops of color, and top your tables with dried centerpieces.
